Jackson, Tenn. (Dec. 5, 2014) – JSCC student, Joshua Roberson has been selected as a 2014 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar. This scholarship is designed to provide new Phi Theta Kappa members with financial resources to help defray educational expenses while enrolled in a two-year college and also encouraging participation in Society programs. This year’s recipients were selected by a panel of independent judges from more than 900 applicants. Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars are selected based on outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated leadership potential. The program awards up to 200 scholarships of $1,000 each.

Joshua is a sophomore and is scheduled to graduate in May 2015. At that time, he will receive an AA in Foreign Language and an AS in General Studies. Upon graduation, Joshua plans to pursue a BA in Management and Human Relations through the Trevecca program on the JSCC campus. His ultimate career goal is a career in human resource management.
While at JSCC, Joshua has been actively involved in a number of activities and held several positions. He is currently the SGA secretary/treasurer and Spanish club secretary. As a student worker, he works in the office at the Lexington Campus and also tutors anatomy and physiology and served as the president of LASSO.
The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program provides new Phi Theta Kappa members with financial resources to help defray educational expenses while enrolled in associate degree programs. Scholars are also encouraged to assume leadership roles by participating in Society programs.
The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation provides $200,000 in funding for the scholarships, with $25,000 set aside for members who are veterans or active members of the U.S. military. The remaining amount is supported by donations to the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation and provides Leaders of Promise Global Scholarships, earmarked for international students.
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, headquartered in Jackson, Miss., is the largest honor society in higher education with 1,285 chapters on college campuses in all 50 of the United States, plus Canada, Germany, the Republic of Palau, Peru, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the British Virgin Islands, the United Arab Emirates and U.S. territorial possessions. Nearly 3 million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 132,000 students inducted annually.
