Talk Already Turning to Haslam Successor in 2018 

 

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — With the dust barely settled on Republican Gov. Bill Haslam’s election to his second term, the parlor game of speculating about who will run to succeed the term-limited governor in 2018 is already in full swing.

Bob Corker had been widely expected to consider a run for governor at the end of his second term in the U.S. Senate in 2018. But the GOP takeover of the Senate put Corker in line to become chairman of the powerful Foreign Relations Committee, which could make a return to state politics less likely.

That leaves the door open to a slew of Republicans who could get into the race. They include House Speaker Beth Harwell, Secretary of State Tre Hargett, U.S. Rep. Diane Black and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty
