UPDATE

According to a news release, about 4:36 p.m. , officers were sent to an area near the entrance to Timberlake Estates on North Parkway to investigate a man causing a disturbance.

As one of the officers arrived in the area, he observed a man on the side of the road matching the description provided by the caller who reported the disturbance. The officer got out of his patrol car to investigate and was immediately attacked and stabbed by the man.

Investigators say, the officer shot the man who fell to the ground. Ambulance crews transported the injured man and the officer to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. The suspect was pronounced dead at the emergency room. The officer was treated and later released.

The investigation is ongoing, said Chief of Police Julian Wiser.

Investigators are still working to identify the suspect and notify next of kin. The officer’s name is not being released at this time.

BREAKING NEWS, JACKSON Tenn — Jackson Police received a disturbance call to the Timberlake Estates area on North Parkway and Campbell St.

Officers engaged a person of interest and altercation occurred.  It resulted in one JPD officer stabbed and one suspect shot.
