14-Year-Old Runaway Steals JMCS School Bus, Keys Left In Bus

(September 10, 2014)  JACKSON Tenn — Jackson police have charged a 14-year-old boy with felony theft for stealing a school bus.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, police were called about a boy who had run away from home. While officers were taking the report, they were notified that the Tennessee Highway Patrol had stopped a school bus eastbound on Interstate 40 near mile marker 102.

The driver and only occupant on the bus was identified as the 14-year-old runaway.

Law enforcement contacted Jackson-Madison County Schools were notified.  They were able to confirm that the bus had been stolen from North Side High School.

The teen was arrested for felony theft. He was transported to the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center.

The bus was released to the school system representative. He noted damage to the bus. Investigators are attempting to determine if the damage is new or old. New damage could result in further charges.

Investigators also determined that the key had been left inside the bus.

The teen will have a detention hearing in Madison County Juvenile Court sometime today.
