(August 19, 2014, Jackson, TN) – Dr Verna Ruffin released a statement regrading grounds keeping issues.
Jackson-Madison County School District officials are aware of community concerns regarding the grounds keeping situation at some of the district campuses. The district is aware that some campus lawns had become overgrown during the
transition from JMCS managed grounds keeping services to the GCA managed grounds keeping services which began on August 1, 2014.
Upon contacting a representative from GCA, we received the following information:
Friday, August 22, 2014 begins the second round in the rotation of cuts to reflect the 14 day cycle which was contracted with GCA. All campuses will have been cut twice this month by the end of August 2014.
It was a challenge on the first cutting of most campuses due to the height of the grass and weeds in light of not having a full crew prior to the transition to GCA and due to two rain out days during the first cycle.
GCA has committed to accelerate their efforts in order to get the job done and anticipate a much more manageable task moving forward after the completion of the first cuttings for each campus.
It is very important to the district to maintain the lawns of our campuses for the safety of our students, as well as, to provide an exceptional environment for teaching and learning. GCA has made a commitment to maintain a high quality of service for the JMCSS. The recent effort of volunteers reaching out to assist in expediting the progress at their neighborhoodDr. Verna Rufin Superintendent school is appreciated and the district welcomes future opportunities for volunteers to partner with our schools to exhibit the spirit of community and school pride because “We are all in this together”.
