Knoxville Bound Plane Makes Emergency Landing In LaGuardia

NEW YORK (AP) — American Eagle says a mechanical problem forced one of its jets to make an emergency landing at New York’s LaGuardia Airport just after takeoff.

The airline says Knoxville, Tennessee-bound Flight 3340 landed safely back at the airport around 3 p.m. Wednesday.

A spokesman says passengers were taken off the plane on the runway and returned to the terminal by bus. No one was injured.

An airport spokesman says there was a report of smoke in the cabin.

The emergency landing briefly closed a runway.

A passenger on a flight landing around the same time tweeted that it delayed his plane from getting to the gate.

The Embraer 140 holds about 40 passengers.

American Eagle says passengers will be placed on other flights.
