Holly Bobo Trial Day Two is About Evidence

HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn (August 12, 2017) – Day two opened with Judge Creed McGinley instructing the jury on hearsay testimony.

Decatur County Sheriff’s Deputy Tony Webber was the first witness on the stand.  Webber was the first deputy on to arrive at the Bobo home the day of the abduction.  Webber placed the call to AT&T to ping, or try to trace, the whereabouts of Holly Bobo’s cell phone.

AT&T told police that Bobo’s cell phone pinged near I-40 and Holladay Circle.

Deputy Webber spoke to Holly’s brother Clint, who reported the abduction to 911.  The brother said, “The only thing I can tell you is that she was outside and her brother heard her screaming (and) a man in camouflage took her into the woods.”

Webber said he believed Clint Bobo filled out a written statement the day of the abduction but he “never gained possession” of the document. Deputy Webber put Clint Bobo’s name on the report as offender / suspect / other. Deputy Webber said that once he saw the blood in the carport he realized the severity of the situation and pace picked up a quickly.

TERRY BRITT Sex Offender

Defense Attorney Jennifer Thompson asked Deputy Webber if he  remembered seeing sex offender Terry Britt on Jeanette Holladay Rd. and seeing Britt unloading a tub from truck next door. Britt is a convicted sex offender who has a long history of sex crimes: rape in 1977, sexual battery in 1987, and rape again in 1996. Ten months after Bobo disappeared, Britt was indicted for the 2008 kidnapping and rape of another woman two counties away.

When Holly Bobo disappeared, Britt lived in Decatur County.

Prosecutors for the state call TBI Special Agent Lawrence James. James is a supervisor for the forensic lab for TBI.

James said sometime after he arrived lead TBI Agent Terry Dycus told him to focus on the garage area of the house. Agent James was one of the agents who responded to the Holly Bobo house on after the abduction.

Prosecutors asked agent James to identify various photos that showed drops of blood and part of Holly Bobo car in the carport. James testified there was “a good amount of blood” in the garage, about 50-60 blood drops and stains in the garage, by Holly Bobo’s car, and the garage wall. James said the blood indicated signs of a possible struggle.

One DNA profile from the blood matched the DNA from a known sample of Holly Bobo taken by TBI from Holly Bobo’s house.  James said he remembers looking through Clint Bobo’s clothes for “blood stained clothing.”. Samples of clothing, including shoes were removed from the home for possible later match.

Testimony will resume Wednesday morning.
