County Commissioner Doug Stephenson has resigned his position with County Commission to accept a job at the Jackson Madison County Health Department.
Stephenson will become the Fiscal Director for the County Health Department. Â Stephenson says the responsibilities will include director of budgets, supervising grants and contracts, and overseeing the daily financial management of the health department.
Stephenson said “I am excited about this new opportunity for myself and my family. Â My experience on the county commission has prepared me to step into this new role. Â I know the people I’ll be working with and I am excited to be working with them”
Stephenson says the newly created postilion became available after Sandy Hayes, Regional Administrator, resigned to accept a new job.
Stephenson serves District 2, Position 3 for Madison County Commission. Â Even though Stephenson is resigning to accept the Health Department job he will be reelected in August for another 4-year term. Â Stephenson faces no opposition on the August 7 ballot and qualifying time for a write-in opponent.
The resignation will be on the agenda for the August County Commission meeting but by the meeting Stephenson will have been re-elected. Â The newly elected officials will be sworn in at the September meeting.
Doug Stephenson says he hopes to start his new job immediately.
