Day three of the late season bad weather onslaught offers a little relief. Conditions on some roads are improved — and temperatures are expected to moderate somewhat. But drivers early this morning were greeted by a thick, freezing fog.
Traffic continues to move normally on I-40. State routes are much improved but icy patches remain. City streets and secondary rural roads remain tough to travel. In rural Haywood County some roads are still blocked by downed trees and limbs.
Yesterday authorities were stretched to the max with stranded motorists, fender benders and jack-knifed tractor-trailer trucks. At one point yesterday a stretch of the bypass was closed as was the span of Highway 76 between Koko and Exit 56.
So far no one was been seriously injured.
Weather forecasters say temperatures are headed up and we may see 60’s within a few days.
