Man Fires Gun at Gas Station, Hits Canopy

(March 10, 2014) Jackson, Tenn.- Jackson Police have charged a customer  with reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon after shooting a gun outside of a gas station convenience store. 

 

Jackson Police charged Corye Martin, age 28 of Jackson, with reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and vandalism. 

 

According to the Jackson Police Department, around 9PM Saturday, police were called about shots fired outside of the Phillips 66 at 1585 North Parkway. The suspect had left the scene in a car before officers arrived.

 

JPD says that the clerk told officers that a customer had been in the store and walked behind the store counter saying that he was going to get some cigarettes. The clerk then had to physically remove him from be hid the counter.

 

The release also says that the customer went back to his car after purchasing the cigarettes, retrieved a gun from inside the car and fired three times into the air. The bullets struck the canopy that covered the gas pumps. 

 

Martin surrendered at the Jackson Police Department early Monday morning and was arraigned at the Jackson City Court. His bond was set at $50,000 and his next scheduled court appearance is April 3 in Jackson City Court at 9:30am.
