If the 25th annual Sports Plus High School Football Jamboree can be used as a barometer, then the University School of Jackson Bruins should do quite well this season.
USJ’s offense and defense dominated in its 24-0 win over Liberty at the Ballpark at Jackson, Friday.
Senior quarterback Jacob Buie threw touchdown passes of 17 and 29 yards to Thad Puzdrakiewicz and Charles Campbell nailed a 34-yard field goal for the Bruins, which took a commanding 17-0 lead in the first quarter.
The USJ win was one of five shutouts at the jamboree.
Dyer County 15, North Side 0
Dyer County quarterback Beau Garner threw touchdown passes of six- and 55-yards for the Choctaws in a 15-0 win over North Side, at the Ballpark at Jackson, Friday.
Dyer County scored on it initial drive when Garner hit Hunter Taylor from six-yards out with 6:40 to play in the first quarter.
It only took one play one series later when Garner hit Chase Patterson with a 55-yard strike.
Cayden Stafford was the recipient of a Garner pass for the two-point conversion, and a 15-0 Dyer County lead.
North Side’s Jamari Poindexter rushed for 24 yards on seven carries; Nakia Mercer accounted for 14 yards on six attempts and Antonio Atkins added nine yards on two carries.
Mercer, North Side’s quarterback, completed four passes in seven attempts for 38 yards.
Greenfield 8, Jackson Christian 0
Seth Davidson hauled in a Kelly Ricketts fourth down pass from 12 yards out and Grant Huffstetler scored on a two-point conversion in Greenfield’s 8-0 win over Jackson Christian in game two.
Gibson County 20, Humboldt 0
The Pioneers put 20 points on the scoreboard in the first quarter, and cruised to a 20-0 win over county rival Humboldt.
Trinity Christian Academy vs. South Side
TCA used a goal-line stand to complete a 6-0 win over South Side in Friday’s final game.
Chester County High School
Trey Lowe scored on a six-yard run and added a two-point conversion for Bolivar in a come from behind 14-7 win over Chester County.
A 17-yard Correy Brown run gave the Tigers a 6-0 lead, but Chester County answered when Harrison Taylor went in from 30 yards out, and the Eagles led 7-6.

South Fulton 14, Middleton 8
Lexington
Huntingdon’s Hunter Easley had a career in its jamboree game against Scotts Hill at Lexington High School.
Easley scored on two pass interceptions of 60- and 40 yards and the Mustangs cruised to a 25-7 win.
Cade Pearson and Dallas Willis combined for a 20-yard touchdown pass and Tyreese Maybin raced 70 yards for a Huntingdon touchdown.
Scotts Hill was able to avoid the shutout when Cole Rogers scored on a 30-yard run.
