Cordova LPN Charged in Death of Child Patient

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says a licensed practical nurse from Cordova has been indicted in the death of a child.

Demequa Bonds was arrested Wednesday and was released on bond after being booked at the Shelby County jail. A telephone listing for her could not be found Thursday.

The TBI said a grand jury indicted the 34-year-old Bonds on a charge of reckless homicide in the death a year ago of 3-year-old Kayla Andrews. An administrator of the West Tennessee Healthcare Facility tipped the TBI that Bonds was negligent in the child's death.

The nurse was employed by "Where the Heart Is, Inc." — a state certified home health care agency.

The child required 24-hour nursing care for a medical condition, She died at her family's home.
