The Blacksmith: renovations inside and out for new downtown restaurant

An upscale American restaurant, The Blacksmith Bar & Grill, 216 N. Shannon St., has its sights set on opening September 1, in downtown Jackson.

Renovations continue at the 5,000-square-foot facility that will be managed by Michael Tessaro, who discussed the restaurant name, the redesign and menu.

The Blacksmith is named the Blacksmith, because the building we occupy was originally a blacksmith shop according to records,” Tessaro said. “Since the building was purchased, we have remodeled pretty much the entire building.”

Tessaro said real wooden beams have been added to the dining room with reclaimed wood and tin to the walls to present a rustic – but comfortable feel.

“The bathrooms have been completely remodeled, and we have remodeled the kitchen and dish room areas,” Tessaro said. “There is literally no room in the building that has not had some type of improvement.”

Tessaro also discussed the patio.

“We should start soon on the pergola and canopy area for our patio,” Tessaro said. “Yes, we are even going to redo the patio. The new concrete is already poured, and now we’re just getting it partially covered.”

A pergola is an archway in a garden or park consisting of a framework covered with trained climbing or trailing plants.

“We plan on having different seating areas out on the patio for what ever mood you are in,” Tessaro said. “(We’re) even coming up with a couple of unique fresh drinks to go to complement the fresh air and the friendly atmosphere.”

Then, there’s the menu.

“The Blacksmith will be offering a selection of gourmet burgers, some stuffed with your favorite ingredients, a selection of crafted salads and baked potatoes, along with hand crafted sandwiches,” Tessaro said. “We will also offer steaks, chicken and other entrees for our guests.

“Our Bar Manager has also created some signature drinks and brought back some originals with a new twist to complement the food here. The goal at The Blacksmith is to provide a unique dining experience for family and friends while offering great food and great service.”

Tessaro said The Blacksmith appreciates the support of downtown merchants and business people who have visited, and the restaurant is enthused about being a part of downtown Jackson.

“We look forward to partnering with the city and other organizations in the downtown area to help in the revitalization and to offer some neat choices,” Tessaro said. “We want to help the downtown area grow, because we like the vibe and the feel of the area.”
