(August 6, 2013) Jackson, Tenn.- Governor Bill Haslam was at the Jackson Lift Center on Tuesday to launch the statewide “Healthier Tennessee” initiative.
Governor Haslam was joined on stage by Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist, Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris, and West Tennessee Healthcare President/CEO Bobby Arnold.
At the event held on Tuesday, Governor Haslam outlined what the “Healthier Tennessee” initiative entails.

The initiative advocates people being physically active for at least 30 minutes a day for five days out of the week, eating healthier foods, and stopping the use of tobacco products.
Governor Haslam was also joined on stage by Rick Johnson who is the President of the newly formed Governor’s Foundation for Health and Wellness. It is a non-profit group based out of Nashville that will steer the initiative in the long term.
Johnson spoke about how the initiative will be implemented throughout the state.

Johnson is joined by ten others to make up the board of directors. They include CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee William Gracey,CEO of the Vanderbilt Health System Wright Pinson, Chief of Staff in the Governor’s Office Mark Cate, and others.
