Jackson Christian School Petitions Zoning Board for Soccer Field and Track Land

(July 22, 2013) Jackson, Tenn.- Jackson Christian School approached the Jackson City Board of Zoning Appeals to request a special exception for land to expand their athletic fields.

The plans show an area that would be used for an unlit soccer field and track behind the JCS Football Field and near Forest Downs. No access to the area would be available from Forest Downs.

The planning staff recommended approval of their application, provided there would be a fence at Forrest Downs, no lighting, and maintenance of or addition of a vegetative barrier.

JCS is in the early planning stages of the project and will purchase this land contingent on the board approval. Since they have not purchased it, no topographical or engineering studies have been done.

Residents of Forrest Downs and surrounding areas came to the meeting to express their concerns.

Billy Worboys, resident of one of the nearby communities, voiced some concerns during the meeting.

The board felt that they did not have enough information to make an informed decision. They requested that an engineering study, a maximum and minimum impact study, and a water study be done.

The board tabled the item, giving JCS 60 days to talk to nearby residents more and come up with the additional studies.
