Testimony in the trial of a former Madison County constable, local business owner, and former candidate for Sheriff, Mike Presson wrapped up on Wednesday after a day and a half of witness and evidentiary testimony. Presson faces multiple counts of rape of a child and other sexual charges
Jury selection was on Monday and the trial began in Circuit Court on Tuesday.
There was victim testimony, testimony from Madison County Sheriff's investigators, and forensic experts. Mr. Presson did not take the stand in his own defense.
Presson faces charges including aggravated sexual battery, rape of a child, indecent exposure, exhibition of materials to a minor, sexual battery and stalking.
Madison County Sheriff's investigators initially conducted an investigation on allegations of sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl over two time periods of a few days in July 2009. A later indictment contains allegations that he abused a second minor female.
The jury received the case for deliberation Wednesday afternoon and will continue deliberation on Thursday at 8:30 am. The jury is not sequestered and is asked not to discuss the case with any person or listen to or read media reports
