The Madison County Archives has received a $2,000 grant to improve storage conditions for city and county government records.
"These grant dollars will go a long way toward protecting the records stored in our local archives," Rep. Jimmy Eldridge said. "I encourage people who want to learn more about our local history to visit the archives and see the records that are available there."
"It is very important that these types of records are preserved for future generations," Secretary of State Tre Hargett said. "I commend Madison County officials for applying for this grant. I'm sure it will be put to good use."
Police Identify Victim in Monday's Homicide Investigation Gary Morris, 24, of Jackson, was identified as the victim in Monday's homicide on Brianfield Cove.
Around 1:15 p.m., police were called to the 20 block of Brianfield Cove.
Based on the preliminary investigation, Morris was shot outside in the immediate area. He then went to an apartment on Brianfield Cove, forced his way inside and collapsed. The person who lived in the apartment knew Morris.
Investigators and a county medical examiner were called to the scene.
Morris' body was transported to the state Medical Examiner's Office in Nashville for an autopsy.
Police are also attempting to identify two persons of interest. They were described as black males in their late teens to early 20s. Both were wearing white t-shirts and one was wearing red shorts. They were last seen in the area of Hillshire Drive and Northfield Cove.

Burglary Suspect Arrested, Police Seek Second Suspect
A Jackson man was arrested on a state warrant for Aggravated Burglary. A resident of an apartment complex in the 100 block of Old Hickory Boulevard reported his apartment had been burglarized in February. Several items were stolen, including electronics and clothing. The total value of the items was over $2,000. Some of the items that were stolen were sold to an individual on a social networking sales website.
The individuals that posted the items for sale were identified as Dion Arnaz Jones, 26 and Marcus Dewayne Cole, 29. The pair posted photographs of the stolen items for sale on the internet. Warrants were issued for their arrest. Dion Jones of Humboldt, was arrested on April 17 th. The warrant for Marcus Cole is still active; police are seeking to arrest him also. Cole is a Jackson resident.
Dion Jones was formally arraigned Monday morning in Jackson City Court. He was released after posting a $25,000 bond.

Police Solve Burglaries and Thefts at Jackson Meadow Contract Painter in Custody and Was Arraigned Monday;
On March 4, the Jackson Fire Department responded to a fire at Jackson Meadow at 25 Max Lane Drive. Firefighters extinguished the fire, which had caused damage.
residents were temporarily moved from the facility due to construction. The residents were told to leave their doors unsecured so contractors could do repairs, and they left valuables in their rooms.
In late March and early April, residents and family began looking for items as they began to move back in. They then noticed that cash and property were missing.
Stephen Bragg, 30, of Jackson, was developed as a suspect after a security guard saw him on the property one night without his work equipment.
According to investigators Bragg was solely responsible for stealing cash, jewelry and other valuables from six to eight different apartments at Jackson Meadow.
Investigators have prepared two separate arrest warrants charging Bragg with felony theft for stealing property from two different apartments. Both residents estimated over $10,000 worth of property had been taken. In these thefts, investigators believe Bragg had the opportunity to steal while on the job.
Investigators prepared a third warrant charging Bragg with aggravated burglary and felony theft because he entered a third apartment with the intent to steal and not work. In that incident, he took property with an estimated value of approximately $3,340.
Bragg has been in custody at the Madison County Jail since April 14 for an unrelated burglary in Madison County.
Since Bragg's arrest, investigators have recovered jewelry and other items from the burglaries and thefts and will be contacting Jackson Meadow residents who have filed police reports. Investigators' goal is to identify the recovered property and ultimately return it to the rightful owners. Police encourage residents who were temporarily moved because of the fire to inventory your property. If you discover items missing and believe you are a victim, then file a report with the Jackson Police Department.
The investigation is ongoing, and Bragg will face additional counts. Police anticipate presenting future charges directly to the Madison County grand jury.
The Madison County Commission will meet tonight. Items on the agenda include the appointment of an Interim Sheriff to fill the unexpired term of David Woolfork there are three candidates applying for the position. Last month the commisioners were unable to reach a majority vote.
Commissioners will also here a presentation for the JMCS School Board for the 2014-15 school budget. The school board is asking for a 9 million dollar increase in General Operation and Capital funding. The request is about a 20% increase over last years budget

Jackson – Madison County Schools and departments will have representatives available to discuss job opportunities with in the district .
Prospective employees for the Jackson – Madison County School System should attend this job fair to have the opportunity to talk one – on – one with school principals and department administrators about open positions or positions that may be come available for the 2014 – 2015 school year. In addition to school representatives, departments that will be represented include but are not limited to maintenance, school nutrition, coordinated school health, transportation and information technology.

The Multi-Jurisdictional Violent Crime and Gang Task Force conducted operations in Haywood, Gibson, Crockett, Madison, Henderson, and Chester Counties on the night of April 17th into the early morning hours of April 18th, 2014.
Officers participating in the operations were from the Jackson Police Department; Madison County Sheriff’s Office; Chester County Sheriff’s Office; Henderson Police Department; Community Corrections; U.S. Marshals Service; Metro-Narcotics; Milan Police Department; Haywood County Sheriff’s Office; Humboldt Police Department; Lexington Police Department; Tennessee Bureau of Investigation; Brownsville Police Department; Henderson County Sheriff’s Office; Trenton Police Department; Crockett County Sheriff’s Office; Alamo Police Department; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives; and Federal Bureau of Investigations.
The operation included saturation patrols in high crime areas where violent crime and / or gang activity have been taking place and included traffic stops, probation / parole and sex offender compliance checks, arrest warrant service, and three (3) search warrants. There were numerous “citizen contacts”, “knock and talks”, and “warrant checks” conducted also.
The op hours were from noon on 17th til 3am on 18th.
There were 30 officers / deputies /agents total from JPD (Spec Ops and Patrol), MCSO, US Marshals, ATF, & Community Corrections that worked in Jackson / Madison Co.
There were 18 arrest, 30 traffic citations, 36 warrant checks, 1 meth-lab, 1 search warrant, and several foot patrols made in Jackson / Madison Co.
Overall I think this operation was extremely successful and the continued cooperation among multiple jurisdictional local, state, federal law enforcement and Prosecutors is a must in dealing with violent crime and gang activity. Law Enforcement had great support from both District Attorneys and this Task Force is a great benefit to our community.
ackson police are investigating an armed robbery at Family Dollar.
Shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to Family Dollar at 1011 Old Hickory Boulevard. Two suspects entered the store and demanded money.
One of the suspects was armed with a handgun and fired a shot inside the store, but no one was struck.
An employee complied with demands and opened the register. The suspects took money and fled on foot.
The suspects appeared to be black men. They wore clothing and masks concealing any other identifying characteristics.
