Remembering James Welch

 

(March 24, 2014) Jackson, Tenn.- Radio personality, emcee, deacon, and Sunday school teacher were just a few of the ways James Welch became involved and impacted the West Tennessee community. 

Welch was born in Medina, Tennessee on April 27, 1937 and died last Thursday morning, March 20, 2014 at his residence in Humboldt, Tennessee.  His funeral was held Sunday, March 23, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Humboldt, Tn.

 

For 18 years, Welch worked for Wilson Sporting Goods.  He became a loved part of the West Tennessee community.  He was a member of the Board of Directors of Humboldt General Hospital, Lions Club, and was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church of Humboldt, Tn.

 

 Welch had a storied Radio and Television career which included the emcee of the Miss Tennessee Pageant for several years along with Shelley Mangrum, Miss Tennessee 1984.  We spoke with long time friend Jimmy Exum, Executive Vice President of Murray Guard and Platinum Sponsor for the Miss Tennessee Pageant, following the funeral.  Hear more.
