Man Taken Into Custody for Questioning Has Been Released as
Hotel Parking Lot Shooting Investigation Continues
Jackson police have released the Oakfield man who was taken into custody for
questioning in the Sunday morning shooting that injured four men.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, police were called to Rodeway Inn, located at 1963
U.S. 45 Bypass. Four men were transported either by ambulance or personal
vehicle to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital with gunshot wounds.
A 24-year-old Brownsville man was treated and released, and a 23-year-old
Jackson man remains in stable condition at the Jackson hospital.
A 21-year-old Brownsville man and 24-year-old Jackson man were both
transferred from Jackson to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis where they
remain in stable condition.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a Brownsville woman was having a
birthday party at the hotel. As people were leaving, a fight started on the parking
lot and shots were fired by at least two people.
A witness on scene initially identified a 25-year-old Oakfield man as being
involved, and he was taken into custody for questioning. Investigators released
the man around 8 p.m. Monday due to lack of evidence to support a criminal
charge at this time.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the
Jackson Police Department's Major Crimes Bureau at 731-425-8400 or Crime
Stoppers at 731-424-8477 (TIPS).
