MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — The county budget committee finalized the 2017-18 budget on Wednesday and now it is up to the full body to approve.
The committee voted to recommend a 30-cent property tax increase.
There are a little over 10,400 homes in Madison County appraised between $50,000 and $100,000. A $ .30 tax increase will cost those owners between $3.75 and $7.50 a month.
Commissioner Doug Stephenson said a wheel tax wasn’t a viable option due to the time it would take to implement and the unknown revenue it would generate.
The final budget vote will take place July 18.
