After voting to call on Sheriff David Woolfork to resign or face official ouster proceedings County Commissioner Gerry Neese posted his thoughts on his Facebook page
"This is a sad day for everyone in Madison County. The Sheriff has been a long time friend. The County Commission met for 7 hours today with most of that in closed session with our attorneys concerning the Sheriff and lawsuits against him and the County. We spent a lot of that time studying the investigation we paid $30,000 to have done by an outside independent attorney. It is very obvious that we can not put the taxpayer of this County at risk for additional expense beyond what we are already liable. We are requesting the Sheriff resign in seven days or our County Attorney is to start ouster procedures. Putting the taxpayer in jeopardy AGAIN can not be tolerated. Putting the employees at risk any farther can not be tolerated. There is fault at a lot of levels, but the buck stops with wrong doing at the top. Not everyone will be agree with this decision, but understand that we had the facts before us.:
The County Commission vote for resignation or ouster was 19-6, along racial and party lines
