Two Teens Charges in Early Morning Attempted Robbery

­Jackson police have charged two teens in an early morning robbery attempt where a 53-year-old man was shot at but not injured.

Shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday, Jackson police were called to the corner of Campbell and Wisdom Streets. The man told officers that as he walked on the 500 block of Campbell Street, he saw two male teens on a porch.

When he walked past them, they called out to him and told him to come back.

According to police, the man started walking back toward the teens when he saw one of them with a gun in his hand. the victim told police he turned and started walking away. He then heard gunshots. He said he ran and called police.

Police developed persons of interest and learned that they had just been taken to school. Investigators went to the school and identified the two males, ages 16 and 17.

Police say the investigation determined that both teens saw the man walking and called him over to rob him. When the man ran away, the 17-year-old shot at him multiple times.

The 17-year-old then discarded the gun and both teens went to school.

Police have charged both teens with attempted aggravated robbery and aggravated assault. The 17-year-old faces an additional charge of tampering with evidence.

Both teens will be held at the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center pending a detention hearing in Madison County Juvenile Court.
