The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation into a pedestrian fatality at TA Truck Stop located at 155 Hwy. 138, Jackson, TN, on February 8, 2014 at approximately 11:45 a.m.
The investigation revealed that the driver of a Freightliner Tractor, identified as Gene McCoy, age 69, of 8477 Salem Unity Road, Salem, Ohio, exited his vehicle to re-secure a backhoe to the trailer. Mr. McCoy slipped and fell to the ground under the rear wheels of the 18-wheeler that was driven by Joe E. Shelton of Seymour, Indiana. Mr. Shelton was traveling west on the parking lot of TA Truck Stop at the time of the incident.
There was no indication of speed or other impairments as contributing factors to the crash.
