Jackson Police Department Recognized At City Council Meeting

JACKSON TN, (January 7, 2013) – On November 5, 2013, the Jackson Police Department successfully completed the accreditation process under the Tennessee Law Enforcement Accreditation Program.

On December 5, 2013 the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police officially awarded the Jackson Police Department’s TLEA accreditation.

Tuesday, TACP President, Chief David Moore of the Martin Police Department and TACP Executive Director, Maggi Duncan presented the award of accreditation to the Jackson Police Department during the Jackson City Council meeting. Accepting the award on behalf of JPD was Chief Gill Kendrick, along with Major Thom Corley and Sergeant Ronnie Jackson of the Department’s Professional Standards and Integrity Unit.

The Tennessee Law Enforcement Accreditation Program exists to improve the quality of law enforcement agencies in the State of Tennessee and ultimately the quality of services provided to the citizens of Tennessee. The Tennessee Law Enforcement Accreditation Program was created under the direction and authority of the Tennessee
Association Chiefs of Police, which supports and endorses the continued improvement of law enforcement and emergency communications services by establishing
professional standards of accountability, management, and operations. These professional standards are a reflection of Law enforcement agencies throughout the
State of Tennessee and will enhance and assist each department in the operation and practices to promote and encourage adherence of all police officers to high professional
standards of conduct and performance.
In order to become an accredited law enforcement agency, the Jackson Police Department had to undergo a rigorous compliance review process. To complete this process, policy files were established where proofs of compliance were compiled. In this phase, all applicable Department policies and procedures underwent a review, and were updated/revised as necessary. Tennessee Accreditation Program assessors then reviewed the agency’s policies, procedures, and practices against the standards to ensure necessary compliance is met. A report was then compiled and forwarded to the Tennessee Accreditation Program Board for review, and a nomination to award accreditation was made. The governing board reviewed the nomination, and granted the award of accreditation. In order to maintain accredited status, an accredited agency must provide annual documentation of continued compliance and undergo an onsite assessment every three years.

As a result of the award of accreditation, the City of Jackson will also receive a reduction of approximately $13,000 in its law enforcement liability insurance premiums.
