
Week 7 of the Gridiron Baker’s Dozen saw less shifting in the Gridiron Baker’s Dozen. Westview remains the top team in the poll, but Huntingdon and Lexington closed the gap for the top position.
No. 1 Westview (7-0): The Chargers continued to dominate another opponent with a 43-0 victory against Ripley in week 7. The Chargers continue to take down region opponents with little resistance posting a 167-7 point differential. The Chargers continue to show why they are tops in their region and the best in the state in Class 3A. Last week’s rankings: #1. Next week: vs. Bolivar (2-5).
No. 2 Huntingdon (7-0): The Mustangs also continue to dominate opponents with a 56-7 win last week over Decatur County Riverside. Huntingdon has separated from the pack showing why they are the defending Class 2A State Champions. Last week’s rankings: #2. Next week: vs. Harpeth (1-6).
No. 3 Lexington (7-0): The Tigers defeated South Gibson 27-10 to continue their region dominance. The Tigers also put themselves in great position in region play (5-0), securing a home playoff game with this win. The Tigers have two region games remaining on the schedule. No. 4 Crockett County (6-1): The Cavaliers defeated Dyersburg 39-21 in a non-region matchup last week. Crockett County has 3 games remaining in region play after the bye week. Last week’s rankings: #4 Next week: Bye.
No.5 Munford (5-1): The only team in Class 5A in this week’s poll, the Cougars defeated Kingsbury 68-0 last week. Munford gets the first win (1-0) in the region and has 3 region games remaining. Last week’s rankings: #5 Next week: vs. Memphis Overton (4-3).
No. 6 Haywood (5-2): The Tomcats defeated Millington 51-8 last week. The Tomcats are 4-0 in the region and stay atop of region 8 Class 4A. One late non-region game after the bye, then 2 region games to finish out the season. Last week’s rankings: Tied #8 Next week: Bye.
No. 7 Humboldt (7-0): Humboldt defeated Greenfield last week 40-0 and improved to 4-0 in the region. Humboldt is proving to be a contender in Class 1A this season and can continue to dominate the region with a win after the bye week over Lake County. Last week’s rankings: #7 Next week: Bye.
No. 8 Covington (6-1): Covington defeated Bolivar 50-0 last week in region play. The Chargers continue to defeat region opponents in big fashion and will likely get one more test in week 9 versus Dyersburg before taking on Westview in the final game of the season. No. 9 USJ (5-1): The Bruins defeated Marshall County last week 38-13. The Bruins continue to show why they are one of the top teams in DII and will have one last non-region game against Dyer County before the last 2 region games of the season. Last week’s rankings: #11. Next week: Bye
No. 10 Adamsville (6-1): The Cardinals have a couple big wins this season and a one point loss to Class 4A opponent Chester Co. Adamsville defeated Mt. Pleasant 42-12 last week and are now 3-0 in region play. The Cardinals have 3 region games remaining. Last week’s rankings: #10. Next week: Bye .
No. 11 Milan (5-2): The Bulldogs defeated Union City 55-0 last week in region play. Milan is 3-1 in the region with the only loss to Huntingdon. They are looking to keep pace with the Mustangs and potentially secure one of the top two spots in the region. The Bulldogs moved one step closer to securing a home playoff game with this week’s win. No.12 TCA (5-1): TCA rejoins the Baker’s Dozen. The Lions defeated undefeated JCS 28-14 last week. With the only loss to #9 USJ, the Lions will look to keep pace this week with another region opponent and will secure a playoff game with a victory this week. Last week’s rankings: unranked. Next week: Fayette Academy (4-3).
No. 13 McKenzie (5-2): McKenzie defeated Collinwood 42-6 last week and are winners of 4 straight, but fall one spot in the rankings. The Rebels are back in region play this week where they are undefeated (2-0) with 3 region games remaining. Last week’s rankings: #12. Next week: vs. Hollow-Rock Bruceton (4-3).
