Week 6 of the Gridiron Baker’s Dozen once again brought mixed reviews from the panel which resulted in some shifting in the Gridiron Baker’s Dozen. Westview remains the top team in the poll while some teams jockey for positions and losses proved too much for some teams to stay in the top 13.
No. 1 Westview (6-0): The Chargers continued to dominate another opponent with a 42-24 victory against powerhouse Lausanne in week 6. This game was a midseason test for the Chargers and they passed with flying colors. The Chargers continue to show why they are tops in their region and the best in the state in Class 3A. Last week’s rankings: #1. Next week: vs. Ripley (1-5).
No. 2 Huntingdon (6-0): The Mustangs also continue to dominate opponents with a 55-0 win last week over Gibson Co. Now 4-0 in the region, Huntingdon has separated from the pack showing why they are the defending Class 2A State Champions and secured a first round home game with that win. Last week’s rankings: #3. Next week: vs. Riverside (4-2).
No. 3 Lexington (6-0): The Tigers defeated South Side 72-14 to continue their region dominance. The Tigers also put themselves in great position in the region (4-0) becoming playoff eligible. The Tigers can likely secure a home playoff game with a region win over South Gibson. Last week’s rankings: #4. Next week: vs. South Gibson (3-3).
No. 4 Crockett County (5-1): The Cavaliers defeated North Side 42-7 in a region matchup last week. Crockett County improved to 3-1 in the region and will get a rest in region play as they take on non-region opponent Dyersburg. Last week’s rankings: #6 Next week: vs. Dyersburg (4-2).
No.5 Munford (4-1): The only team in Class 5A in this week’s poll, the Cougars ran into Whitehaven last week and fell to the Tigers 13-40. This was Munford’s last game before they begin their region schedule and Munford will look to get back into the win column next week. Last week’s rankings: #2 Next week: vs. Kingsbury (2-4).
No. 6 Jackson Christian (6-0): The Eagles continue to show they are one of the top teams in WTN. JCS defeated Tipton-Rosemark last week 41-14 and now find themselves in the heart of their region schedule. Last week’s rankings: #5. Next week: vs. TCA (4-1).
No. 7 Humboldt (6-0): Humboldt defeated Dresden 42-28 last week and improved to 3-0 in the region. Humboldt is proving to be a contender in Class 1A this season (region 3-0) and can continue to dominate the region with a win over Greenfield this week. Last week’s rankings: #7 Next week: vs. Greenfield (4-2).
No. 8 – Tie
Covington (5-1): Covington defeated Ripley 49-3 last week in region play. The Chargers continue to defeat region opponents in big fashion and will likely get one more test in week 8 versus Dyersburg before taking on Westview in the final game of the season. Last week’s rankings: #8. Next week: vs. Bolivar (2-4).
Haywood (4-2): The Tomcats defeated Fayette Ware last week 44-0. The Tomcats are 3-0 in region play and will likely secure a home playoff game with a win this week. The Tomcats are at the top of Class 4A region 8 and the region championship looks like it will be decided in the last week of the season against Kirby. Last week’s rankings: #12 Next week: vs. Millington (0-5).

No. 10 Adamsville (5-1): The Cardinals have a couple big wins this season already and a one point loss to Class 4A opponent Chester Co. Adamsville defeated out of state opponent Tishomingo Co (MS) last week 55-35. Last week’s rankings: tied #10. Next week: vs. Mt. Pleasant (3-3).
No. 11 USJ (5-1): The Bruins defeated Hardin Academy last week 49-7 and improved to 4-0 in the region. The Bruins continue to show why they are one of the top teams in DII and continue to control the region standings. Last week’s rankings: #11. Next week: vs. Marshall Co (2-4).
No.12 McKenzie (4-2): The Rebels make their first appearance in the Baker’s Dozen since the pre-season poll. McKenzie defeated Chester Co 42-7 last week and are winners of 3 straight. The Rebels get back to region play this week where they are undefeated (1-0). Last week’s rankings: unranked. Next week: vs. Collinwood (2-4)
No. 13 Milan (4-2): The Bulldogs defeated JCM 38-34 last week in a must win game in region play. Milan is 2-1 in the region with the only loss to Huntingdon. They are looking to keep pace with the Mustangs and potentially secure one of the top two spots in the region. The Bulldogs can move one step closer to securing a home playoff game with a win this week. Last week’s rankings: unranked. Next week: vs. Union City (3-3).
