BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference announced its fist golf week awards of the 2026-27 season and Union University’s Camille Burnette and Ava Hayes swept the women’s golf awards. Burnette was named GSC Women’s Golfer of the Week, while Hayes was named the GSC Women’s Golf Freshman of the Week. This is the first GSC weekly award for both golfers.

Burnette, a 5-foot-10 senior from Jackson, Tennessee, placed first in the University of Montevallo Full Moon BBQ Invitational and did so in record setting fashion. Her 54-hole score of 213 set a Union program record and her final round 69 (-2) was the third best round in Union women’s golf history. Burnette was tied for first after two rounds played Tuesday after scores of 73 (+2) and 71 (E). She then shut the door on the competition with the only round under par on the final day to win by two strokes. In addition to her medalist award, she was named all-tournament.

Hayes, a 5-foot-2 freshman from Gallatin, Tennessee, finished seventh in her first collegiate event. She posted 76 (+5) and 76 (+5) in the first two rounds Tuesday. Then on Wednesday, the posted the second-best score of the day with an even par 71 to climb four spots into the top-10.

This duo led Union to a final round team score of 294, matching the program’s best 18-hole team score. Ironically, the other time Union posted a 294 was the final round of the final event last season, the GSC Championship. Barnette was a part of that score as well. Union also posted a 54-hole team score of 902, setting the 54-hole program record.

Burnett wins medalist honors at Montvallo’s Blue Moon BBQ Invite, team takes third

CALERA, Ala. – The Union University women’s golf team opened the 2026-27 season with a third place finish at the University of Montevallo’s Blue Moon BBQ Invitational. Union senior Camille Burnette claimed medalist honors with a first place finish. The 3-round event was played at the Timberline Golf Club and featured eight teams and 44 individuals.

Burnette was tied for first after day one including a 73 (+2), 71 (E) in the 36 holes played Tuesday. She solidified her first place win with a 69 (-2) in Wednesday’s final round. She fired 10 birdies in the 54-holes, including five in the final round to finish at even par for the event. Her 69 was the third lowest score in team history and her 54-hole score of 213 set a new school record.

In his first tournament as a head coach, Gray Campbell, led his Union’s women’s team to a 54-hole score of 902, setting a school record, while also matching the program record with a final round 294. It was the second straight event for Union to put up a round of 294. The Lady Bulldogs ended the season last year with a 294 in the 2026 Gulf South Conference Championship.

Union finished third in this low-scoring event behind a couple of GSC foes. Mississippi Christian University won the event at +28, while host Montevallo finished second at +45. Union was at +50 for the three rounds. Union finished ahead of GSC teams Spring Hill, AUM, and Christian Brothers.

Joining Burnette in the top-10 was freshman Ava Hayes in seventh place with a +10 score (223). She five birdies in the event, including three in her final round 71 to climb into the top-10.

Aubrey Payne finished T20 at +22, Grace Roper finish 22nd at +24, and Macy Bromley finished 23rd at +25.
