‘Grace for Grief: A Mother’s Journey of Love and Loss,’ Local author Pam McCarty releasing memoir

By: Isabelle Puente

After two-and-a half years of writing and editing, native Jacksonian and local author, Pam McCarty, is releasing her memoir in hopes of helping those that are dealing or struggling with grief.

Grace for Grief: A Mother’s Journey of Love and Loss, debuts July 7 with themes of grief of child loss, hope after loss and spirituality.

Seventeen years after losing her daughter, Morgan Leah McCarty, to a hit-and-run incident, Pam McCarty began writing her memoir beginning with the first and last chapter, then filling the rest with joyful memories of her life and child.

Through the difficulty of reliving old emotions, McCarty was able to persevere and share her
process of dealing with grief. She hopes to help others and let them know that they’re not alone.

“I found myself seeing a lot of books from ministers and PhDs and psychologists that were well
meaning, but they were telling you what to do,” McCarty said. “And the books that spoke to me
were the ones that people have been through it saying this is what I did. That gave me the idea that it might be good to help other people.”

Through her Substack, Grace for Grief group meetings, her books, scholarship, and Morgan
McCarty Golf Classic, McCarty has been able to help people across Tennessee and the
nation. The rate of child loss in the U.S. goes up every day at significant rates, a heartbreaking
experience that McCarty has made her mission to help people process.

After navigating the process herself, McCarty finds joy in being able to help those that have lost their own child or children. McCarty also hopes to help people through her upcoming anthology book that will feature stories from other mothers who have dealt with the loss of a child, as well as her upcoming children’s book.

If you are interested in purchasing Grace for Grief: A Mother’s Journey of Love and Loss, you
can purchase the early release copies on Amazon.

McCarty will have book signings on July 7 at Sands Florist located at 18 Old Hickory Cove from 2 to 4 p.m., and July 9 at Shoppes of Seven located at 405 Vann Drive. If you or someone you know is struggling with grief, you can also attend McCarty’s Grace for Grief group meetings every third Tuesday at 5 p.m., located at First United Methodist Church.
