JCM cleared following statewide hoax calls; JPD responded to reported bomb threat

UPDATE: Jackson Police Department Clears JCM Campus Following Statewide Hoax Calls

JACKSON, TN – The Jackson Police Department has successfully completed a thorough sweep of the Jackson Central-Merry (JCM) campus. The school is no longer on lockdown, and normal operations are resuming.

Following an exhaustive investigation and a full tactical sweep of the property, law enforcement has verified that no intruder was ever on school property, and no suspicious items were discovered.

Statewide Context:
The Jackson Police Department has been in close communication with the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security. It has been confirmed that JCM was one of several schools throughout the state targeted today by a series of coordinated hoax calls.

Multiple reports of violence were called in to various Tennessee schools today.

All such reports have been deemed hoaxes intended to cause disruption.

There have been no actual acts of violence at JCM or any other school involved in these reports.

Message to Families:
The Jackson Police Department extends its sincere gratitude to parents and guardians for their cooperation during this incident. By remaining away from the campus as requested, parents allowed officers to maintain a secure perimeter and clear the building safely and effectively.

“The safety of our students is our absolute priority,” said the Jackson Police Department. “We appreciate the patience of the JCM community as we worked to ensure the environment was entirely safe before lifting the lockdown.”

[JACKSON, TN] – The Jackson Police Department (JPD) is currently on-site at Jackson Central-Merry (JCM), located at 332 Lane Avenue, following a report of a potential threat.

This morning, JPD Central Dispatch received a 911 call alleging an act of violence and a bomb threat at the school. Officers responded immediately and established direct contact with the school’s School Resource Officer (SRO).

Current Status and Safety Measures:
No Acts of Violence: JPD can confirm there have been no reported acts of violence and no injuries.

Students are Safe: All children are safe, accounted for, and currently sheltering in place.
Precautionary Sweep: Law enforcement is conducting a thorough sweep of the campus to ensure no suspicious items are present. At this time, no unauthorized persons or items matching the 911 report have been located.

Notice to Parents and Public:
The Jackson Police Department is strictly requesting that parents do not come to the school at this time. To ensure officers can complete their safety protocols and maintain a clear perimeter for emergency vehicles, it is vital that the area remains clear.

The school remains on lockdown as a standard precautionary measure while the investigation continues. Updates regarding reunification or the lifting of the lockdown will be provided as soon as the scene is cleared.
