West Tennessee Healthcare marks 15,000 Robotic Surgeries at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital

Jackson, TN – West Tennessee Healthcare proudly announces a major milestone at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital: the completion of its 15,000th robotic-assisted surgery.

This achievement reflects years of innovation and a continued commitment to bringing advanced, high-quality care to patients across West Tennessee.

Since launching robotic-assisted surgery in 2009, the program has grown to include more than 30 surgeons across specialties such as general surgery, urology, gynecology, gynecologic oncology, and cardiothoracic care.

Today, the hospital remains one of only two programs in the state performing robotic cardiovascular procedures, offering highly specialized care close to home.

“Our 15,000th robotic surgery is a testament to the expertise of our surgeons, the dedication of our care teams, and our continued investment in technology that improves patient outcomes,” said Melissa Hayden, Executive Director, Perioperative Services. “This milestone represents thousands of patients who have benefited from less invasive procedures, shorter recovery times, and greater precision in the care we provide.”

Over the years, robotic-assisted surgery has allowed surgeons at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital to perform complex procedures with greater precision while minimizing the impact on patients. This approach has helped improve outcomes, shorten recovery times, and get patients back to their daily lives sooner, all while maintaining a strong focus on safety, teamwork, and patient-centered care.

“What we have accomplished so far is really just the beginning,” said Andrew Myers, Chief of Surgery. “West Tennessee Healthcare is at the forefront of surgical technology and continues to make significant investments that allow for growth and surgeon development.

“We will continue to deliver state-of-the-art surgical care to the communities and patients we serve.”

West Tennessee Healthcare continues to invest in the future of robotic surgery, with plans to expand to five robotic surgical systems this month, further increasing access and supporting continued growth across specialties.

Robotic-assisted surgery offers patients many benefits, including smaller incisions, less pain, shorter hospital stays, and quicker recovery times. As demand grows, West Tennessee Healthcare remains committed to making advanced surgical care accessible for families across the region.
