From Jackson City Mayor Scott Conger
URGENT COMMUNITY NEED!!!!!!
Starting Friday, Jackson is expected to experience dangerously cold temperatures and possibly heavy snow. These conditions are life threatening for anyone who is unsheltered.
The City of Jackson, TN – Government is opening temporary emergency shelters to make sure no one is left outside in this weather. While organizations that typically serve this population are unable to staff and operate shelters for this event, the City is stepping in to fill the gap.
But we cannot do this alone.
Here’s what’s in place:
* Women and children will be sheltered at First Methodist in downtown Jackson
* Men and children will be sheltered at the T.R. White Sportsplex
* Madison County Emergency Management will provide cots and blankets
* The Jackson Police Department will have an officer onsite for safety
What we urgently need from the community:
* Volunteers willing to serve in 4-hour shifts.

* Meals and food donations

* Personal hygiene kits
Drop off at First Methodist – Downtown Jackson, TN Between 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
* Blankets
Drop off at First Methodist – Downtown Jackson, TN Between 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
This is not a “nice to have.” When temperatures drop this low, lives are at risk.
We need commitments by Thursday. A short volunteer training will be held Friday afternoon. Details coming soon.
If you or your church, business, or group can help, please step forward now. Even one shift, one meal, or a few hygiene kits make a difference.
Jackson has always been a city that shows up when it matters. This is one of those moments.
