JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University Athletics notebook will highlight news, events, awards, and much more throughout the season on a weekly basis.
Union University Athletics is winding down the semester, but has two more home basketball dates before Christmas.
Courtney Zenser scored a game high 15 points and La’Sonja Hill added 14 for the Lady Bulldogs (8-4 overall; 3-1 Gulf South Conference) in a 109-50 win over Auburn University Montgomery, at Fred DeLay Gymnasium, Thursday.
In the men’s game, Mason McBride scored a team-high 23 points and Terrence Ringo Jr. added 19, in a 74-71 loss to AUM, leaving the Bulldogs at 6-4 overall and 2-2 in Gulf South Conference play.
Next up – Montevallo visits Fred DeLay Gymnasium when the women take the floor at 2 p.m. and the men follow at 4 p.m., Saturday.
The Lady Bulldogs received votes in the WBCA rankings, just outside the top-25 at No. 27. Union’s streak of 75 straight weeks in the top-25 ended earlier this year. Two of Union’s losses are to top-5 teams in the WBCA national rankings.
The men’s team had won two straight and four of its last five games entering Thursday’s game. Union was coming off a 76-74 win over Christian Brothers, getting a tip-in in the final seconds to seal the win.
Union basketball again claimed multiple weekly awards this week. Abigail Bryan was named the GSC Freshman of the Week for the third time this season. Terrence Ringo, Jr. of the Bulldogs was named the GSC Player of the Week. He also added his second Tennessee Sports Player of the Week award.
