7 Republicans in congressional race say they support Trump

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Seven Republicans vying to replace Stephen Fincher in Congress are saying they support Donald Trump for president.

Candidates in the race for Tennessee’s 8th Congressional District seat met with small business owners at a National Federation of Independent Business luncheon Wednesday.

Five GOP candidates — former U.S. Attorney David Kustoff, state Sen. Brian Kelsey, radiologist George Flinn, business owner Brad Greer and Shelby County Register of Deeds Tom Leatherwood— said Wednesday they support Trump for president. Two others, retired banker Ray Honeycutt and businessman David Maldonado, also have expressed support for Trump.

Another Republican, Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell, said he hasn’t decided whether to back Trump.

Fincher is not seeking a fourth term. The 8th District is heavily Republican and is considered a safe GOP seat in November’s elections.
