4 homicides in 3 weeks in Jackson

An investigation continues into the shooting death of a male – age unknown – that occurred on North Highland Avenue between Skyline Drive and North Parkway, May 20.

The homicide is the fourth in Jackson in three weeks.

The shooting caused an automobile accident and responding officers dispatched to the 1700 Block of North Highland Avenue located one vehicle with a deceased subject on the inside.

The Jackson Police Department is trying to locate or identify a black sedan that would have been traveling northbound on North Highland Avenue approaching North Parkway at approximately 5:12 p.m., Friday.

The Jackson Police Department responded to a shots fired call shortly after midnight, May 3.

An early morning shooting in the 200 Block of Lincoln Street in Lincoln Courts took the life of a male victim – age not available.

This is an ongoing investigation – but the JPD stresses they are getting ‘little to no cooperation’ from citizens in the area.

Tyreece Miller, U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Tennessee, and Jackson Police Chief Thom Corley announced the arrest of double murder fugitive Jadan Jermaine Bills, 19, of Jackson, May 11.

Bills was wanted for Two Counts of First Degree Murder, and Three Counts of Attempted First Degree Murder.

These charges resulted from an April 29, 2022, shooting where Bills is alleged to have shot inside a vehicle, occupied by five people, on North Parkway at the U.S. Highway 45 Bypass.

Four occupants were hit and two victims, ages 18 and 16, died.

On May 4, the Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force based in Jackson adopted the case for a fugitive investigation. The Task Force tracked Bills to a motel on Highway 365 in Little Rock, Ark. Around 4:30 p.m. today, the Task Force from Jackson traveled to Little Rock and met with a U.S. Marshals Task Force based in Little Rock.

Bills was located inside a room and was safely taken into custody. He was booked into the Pulaski County Jail and later extradited back to Tennessee.
