4 deputies on leave, 2 recovering after Tennessee shooting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A Tennessee sheriff says four deputies have been placed on administrative leave after the fatal shooting of a man wanted on an attempted murder warrant.

Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner said Friday that the deputies were working with a fugitive apprehension team when they went to a Memphis home looking for 33-year-old Willie Hudson on Wednesday.

Authorities said Hudson was armed when deputies found him inside the home. Gunfire erupted, and Hudson was killed.

Bonner said one deputy was shot six times in the leg and shoulder, with another bullet hitting his bulletproof vest. Bonner said another deputy was bitten by a K-9 officer that became excited by the gunfire. The injured deputies are recovering at home.

Bonner said deputies did not have body cameras because they work undercover.
