Jackson, TN (September 30, 2015) – Jackson’s International Food and Art Festival grew from the work of the Citizens’ Commission on Unity, formed by Mayor Gist.
Gist said the goal is to help our community grow in understanding of the diversity which makes Jackson. The commission looked at many ways to bring different people together and from this effort the Jackson International Food and Art Festival was born.
This event marks the 2nd annual festival and will take place 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Saturday, October 3, 2015 Court Square in Downtown Jackson. The parade will consist of :
- Parade of Cultures
- Food Booths
- Performances (Music, Demonstration, Dancing and, Storytelling)
- Booths (Merchandise or Business, Artists and Craftsman, Cultural Activities and Demonstrations)
Co-chairs Dr. Sandra Dee and Eduardo Morales say they have planned a great event to foster the city’s different cultures to a spirit of sharing, education and non-violence.
Sponsors include: City of Jackson and Mayor’s Office, The Jackson Arts Council, Jackson-Madison County Library, Jackson Downtown Development Corporation, Jackson Convention and Visitors Bureau, Union University, Lane College, University of Memphis – Lambuth, Jackson State Community College and several other clubs, and civic groups.
Numerous cultural groups have committed to participate in the 2nd Annual festival including Japan, India, Mexico, and The Philippines.
The Festival is part of the 2015 Season of Unity and includes the following events:
