A Fox News 2 report out of St. Louis this morning is reporting that Natalie’s Cakes and More—a Ferguson, MO based custom sweet shop that was looted during this week’s rioting—has received over $230,000 in private donations to help rebuild.
The donations come via Crowdfunding website GoFundMe, which enables anyone with access to the internet and a payment method to donate to causes around the globe. And Ferguson, MO has become a hotspot on GoFundMe. Natalie’s Cakes and More may hold the largest sum of cash donated to people in the Ferguson area, but there are plenty of people cashing in on crowd funding in the area.
A school supplies for Ferguson fund has generated upwards of $2,300
Several alternative media outlets like bloggers and live streamers have generated over $900 to fund their expeditions to Ferguson.
A New York freedom rider brought in $500 for his cause, and several pages in support of the city’s protestors have also brought in over $2,000 combined.
However, all of that pales in comparison to the now $250,000 that Natalie’s Cakes and More will use to rebuild a private business just recently torn apart by violence. For her part, shop owner Natalie DuBoise is using the newfound celebrity to promote other Ferguson-area businesses that still need help.
