Two detention officers with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department have tested positive for COVID-19.
According to Sheriff John Mehr, the two officers are with the Criminal Justice Complex.
One of the two officers is not from Madison County.
“One of the officers had other medical issues,” Mehr said, “The officer had gone to see the doctor; had a series of tests, and was checked for COVID-19.
“The tests came back positive.”
Mehr said the Regional Health Department is taking proper procedures and checking to see who the officers have been in contact with, trying to limit the exposure.
“The nursing staff is constantly screening, but there has been no other reason to test other officers or inmates,” Mehr said, “We are following the guidelines of the (Regional) Health Department and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control).”
