To address budget deficits, the City of Jackson has announced it is furloughing more than 190 employees for 16 weeks.
The furloughs – 60 full-time and 133 part-time, are effective May 2, for the city which is facing a $4 million budget deficit for the 2019-2020 fiscal year.
Employees, which will maintain medical benefits during the furlough period, are scheduled to return to work August 24.
In addition to the steps referenced above, all department heads (including the mayor) have received a temporary pay cut based on a percentage of their salary.
