The new artificial surface – FieldTurf – scheduled for installation at Kirkland Field at the University School of Jackson will be delivered August 6.
It should take about two weeks to complete the project, but the Bruins can buy a little more time in case of a delay, because USJ doesn’t play its first home game until September 13 against Tipton Rosemark Academy.
USJ opens its season at South Side High School, August 30, and the following week the Bruins head for Windy City Road for a game at Trinity Christian Academy.
The USJ Board of Trustees approved a project to install FieldTurf on the football field as part of the on-going Master Plan improvements and Imagine More Campaign. This project also includes striping for a soccer field.
The Bruins and Lady Bruins will have the option to host soccer games at Kirkland Field. The turf will also cut down on rainouts and could allow more games to be added into the schedule.
FieldTurf is a national leader in sports surfacing, with over 4,000 installations in the USA alone. Artificial turf will allow for extended hours of field use. It also requires no downtime, no recovery time, allowing our teams the ability to play longer into different seasons.
