NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Republicans in a conservative county on the outskirts of Nashville are showing that intra-party discord isn’t confined to the national party.
Wilson County Republicans have called off their Reagan Day fundraiser amid a spat over which potential 2018 candidates for governor should be allowed to address the party faithful.
According to Wilson County GOP correspondence obtained by The Associated Press, the event collapsed amid disagreements over whether state Sen. Mark Green would agree to appear at an event that also had a speaking role for U.S. Rep. Diane Black. Former state Rep. Joe Carr then said he wouldn’t speak if Green didn’t.
Green denies that he refused to appear alongside Black, but the damage appears to be done for the event, originally scheduled for June 7.
