‘Friends of Heart’ – 2 more AEDs donated to Jackson-Madison School System

Friends of Heart, a fund of the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation, placed two more automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in the Jackson Madison County School System, according to a press release.

These AEDs went to Madison Academic High School for their second floor as well as a portable one for use at other sites of the campus.

One of the four main goals of Friends of Heart is to provide the community with live-saving resources.

Since July 2017, Friends of Heart has placed over 45 AED machines in public rural areas throughout West Tennessee. This is the fourth AED placed within the Jackson Madison County School System.

These devices recalibrate deadly heart rhythms of a person who has gone into cardiac arrest. The AEDs are simple to use and can be operated without a medical professional present.

”Placing AEDs throughout the communities can mean the difference between life and death and is crucial for EMS to better treat the patient once they arrive, said Mark Walker, Medical Center EMS, “Immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and early defibrillation, with an AED can more than double a victim’s chance for survival. It is very beneficial to have AEDs in public places, and it will save lives.”

Annette Wilson with JMCSS Coordinated School Health states, “Creating healthier and safer campuses is very important. By having resources and trained staff to handle emergencies is vital to reach this goal. We are very fortunate to have many community partners such as Friends of Heart to take such an interest in the lives of our students and staff.”
