CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — A massive sculpture commemorating the lives of five servicemen killed in a deadly Chattanooga attack has been erected in a sculpture park in the city.
Local media report that the 65-foot, 100-ton concrete-and-metal piece entitled “Anchors” by international artist Peter Lundberg was pulled from the ground by crane on Tuesday morning.
The arrow-shaped, concrete-covered work was lifted at Montague Park’s Sculpture Fields during a ceremony attended by a crowd of servicemen, police and city officials, including Mayor Andy Berke, former Mayor Ron Littlefield and county Mayor Jim Coppinger.
Four Marines and a sailor were killed in a shooting rampage by 24-year-old Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez on July 16.
Officials say Lundberg’s creation will be a permanent part of Sculpture Fields, which is scheduled to be opened to the public on Nov. 21.
